A Dream for Flower Mound Campus
Coram Deo Academy has grown from its modest start in 1999 at one location to 920 students at three campuses. In summer 2005, Coram Deo Academy embarked on a new phase of permanence by purchasing 15 acres in Flower Mound. The property includes a grammar school facility that houses 150 students, a temporary upper school classroom facility that houses 150 students, a commons building used as a gymnasium, cafeteria and auditorium and a small office building. Now, the Academy seeks funding for additional campus development through the Cultivate Today – Transform Tomorrow Capital and debt financing.

Phase One Campus Development 2006-2009
The goal of Phase One is to provide a permanent built environment to house all academic, artistic, athletic and administrative functions for the Flower Mound K-12 operation until additional enrollment requires expansion.
Build Multipurpose Facility
Desired is a 23,000 square foot facility that includes a multiuse space with competition grade flooring, equipment, collapsing bleachers and a stage supported by lobby, store, exercise and locker rooms. Using movable partitions, this space will serve as an assembly space of varying sizes, a dining facility, box theatre for dramas and concerts and as a gymnasium. A new entry off Skillern and expanded parking capacity will allow for demolition of the current entry and expansion of the practice field to a full 100 yards.
Renovate Buildings to add 12 Classrooms
In order to replace the modular classroom structure and economically add classroom space, renovate the current permanent buildings to house 12 additional classrooms. Renovate the current 6,700 square foot multipurpose facility to house 7 classrooms, the 1,900 square foot church office building to house 3 classrooms and add 2 classrooms to the lower school facility. The campus would then provide 22 classrooms, the multipurpose building, practice fields parking and circulation to house all K-12 programming for daily enrollment of 350 students. Since the newly installed modular classroom structure must be removed by August 2009, this project is the highest priority.
Grammar School Canopies
Add to the existing grammar school facility entry, carline and playground canopies for protection from sun and rain.
Phase Two Campus Development
Additional Classroom Building, New Entry and Ball Fields
Construct the next classroom building, new grand entrance off Wichita Trail complete the perimeter drive and additional paring. Remove the remaining portion of current parking lot and complete ball fields suitable for every outdoor athletic function except varsity football games that will be played elsewhere in a stadium. The campus provides 34 classrooms for daily attendance by 550 students.
Beyond Phase Two
- Construct an arts facility with gallery, loft studios and music rooms.
- Demolish the original school building and replace it with a new classroom facility.
- Construct the commons with dining rooms and library and perhaps a sloped floor 500-seat auditorium, stage and back stage space. This building would connect the classroom and multipurpose facilities via covered walkways and be surrounded by a pedestrian garden, highlighting the beauty of God’s creation for all who pass through.
- Demolish the house and construct a science center specially designed for study and experimentation in the natural and physical sciences.
- Demolish the original multipurpose facility and replace it with a new classrooms facility with 12 classrooms.

Priciples to Focus the Direction of the New Facility Design and Quality
Proportion and Scale: the height, width, and size of building façades, fenestration, and articulation will be governed by classical rules of the golden section.
Timeless Architecture: the architectural styles employed will avoid trends and cliché by using architectural style that is more towards vernacular and of the place.
Ornamentation: ornament and detail will be placed on each façade and interior spaces in varying degrees in order to enrich the beauty of each building and campus as a whole. It is understood that expensive ornamentation can be added in the future after much of the campus is build out.
Smaller Buildings: every facility will be designed as smaller buildings within a larger campus setting avoiding the “big-box” modern day school and illustrating the more Jeffersonian perspective of the schools view of the body politic.
Natural lighting: all classrooms, corridors, and common spaces will utilize controlled day-lighting designs.
Sustainable: each facility will be designed according to the six principles of Sustainable Design.
Capital Campaign Leadership Team
Parents have been appointed to a Capital Campaign Leadership Team to plan the Capital Campaign that will provide funding for this development. The Committee Cochairmen are Chad Hennings, former Dallas Cowboys’ football player, and James J. Mahoney, Doctor of Osteopathy and founder of the Center for Hope and Healing in Southlake. Committee members include David Beardsley, Matt and Karen Drennan, Dave Juring, Chuck Neal and Megan Pigott.
“We are blessed to have this fine leadership team,” said CDA Headmaster and President Rodney Marshall. “Their optimism and commitment are well-suited for this project.”
“Cultivate Today – Transform Tomorrow” is the theme selected by the committee for the campaign, which will raise funds to finance building a new secondary school on the property and provide for athletic program facilities. It is anticipated that the campaign will be formally announced early in 2007. Temporary buildings which were moved to the property for Logic and High School students must be removed in fall 2009.
Coram Deo Academy recently received a recommendation for accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools; the accreditation should be final in December. Part of the requirement to be accredited as a K-12 school was educating students in kindergarten through grade 12 on one campus.
