Excellence
Excellence is a better teacher than mediocrity. The lessons of the ordinary are everywhere. Truly profound and original insights are to be found only in studying the exemplary.
Warren G. Bennis

There is no dearth of mediocrity in our society; in fact, one might argue that the mediocre has become the standard in many of our most important cultural institutions.  However, I can think of no stronger contrast to this state of affairs than Coram Deo Academy, a Classical Christian School dedicated to excellence.  We have passionate teachers, a visionary administration, supportive parents, and an outstanding student body. Whether in the classroom, the art studio, or the gymnasium, CDA pursues excellence with vigor.  Since being here, I have been impressed by the degree to which these young people are devoted to fulfilling their God-given potential, and I look forward to seeing our high school students pursue their calling (with excellence, of course!) in the coming school year.

High School Orientations
High School Orientation will be August 15-16 from 1:00-4:00.  It is an important time for parents to meet the teachers and gather information about the coming year.

House System Retreat
Tuesday, August 14 marks the day of the House System Retreat, which will last from 6:00am to 6:00pm. Attendance is mandatory for all high school students. This all day event will begin with an opening assembly during which the high school students will be inducted into their respective houses, followed by numerous activities and workshops in which each house will create for itself a unique identity.

CET
Classical Educators Training will take place August 7-8 at the Rock in Carrollton.  Parents can attend for free and will need to contact the school to register. It is a wonderful opportunity to learn great strategies and enjoy time with teachers and administrators.  "Great Books" is the theme of this year's conference and should be very interesting.

House Retreat

Dear Parents,

CDA House Retreat
-- Don't forget the House Retreat August 14th at the CDA campus in Flower Mound.  I look forward to seeing all of the high school students there for this very special event.

Greetings From Mr. Lemley

Dear Parents,

Hello, my name is Victor Lemley and I will be serving you and your children as High School Dean of Students during this quickly approaching school year.  While I will not be assuming all of the inimitable Mr. Rector’s duties (what mortal could?), I am responsible, among other things, for writing the weekly blog.  I came to Coram Deo Academy with a background in history and theology, and with experience teaching and coaching in both public and private schools.  I live in Corinth with my beautiful wife Jenny and two lovely daughters Katie and Chloe.  Having taught history at Coram Deo  last year, I can unequivocally say that these are some of the brightest and most spiritually mature students I have ever had in the classroom.  It will be a privilege to serve them (and you) in my new administrative role this year, and God willing, years to come.

Parent/Student Handbook—Please be aware that the handbook states that all incoming students in grades 6 and 9 (new or current) will need to provide the school with a spinal screening.  Also, if your child has had changes in their immunization record this year, please send a new copy to the school to be placed in your student’s records.

God bless you all,

Victor Lemley
