Athletics' Update
Coram Deo had an exciting weekend of athletics as the Lions won two tournaments and a district contest. See the details below.

Varsity Boys finish strong in tournament

Led by point guard Bronnick Foo and power forward Ben Moer, the Lions cruised to a 72-51 win over Rockwall Christian Academy for the consolation trophy at the Dallas Lutheran Tournament last weekend. The game was tight at the end of the first quarter, with the Lions up by two. But hot shooting and full-court pressure in the second quarter widened the gap to a 14-point lead at halftime. The third quarter was a stalemate, with both teams trading baskets, but the Lions turned it on in the fourth, extending their lead and ultimately securing the victory over the Rockwall team. The Lions were led in scoring by Ben Moer with 22, Bronnick Foo with 18, Zach Moer with 14 and Michael O'Brien with 10.  The Lions record is 5 and 5;  play is at American Heritage Academy this Tuesday night.

Varsity Girls finish 3rd in Cedar Hill

The Lady Lions defeated Harvest Christian to finish 3rd in the Trinity Lady Tiger classic. The Lady Lions won by 8 points and had an outstanding tournament. Congratulations to Coach Bernard Scott for the great weekend!

Varsity Soccer wins first district game

The Varsity Soccer team beat Notre Dame of Wichita Falls 4-1 to win their first district game. With several players out the Lions played well to defeat an improved Notre Dame squad. The Lions are looking toward a playoff berth this year and this is a great first step.

Junior High teams post impressive victories

The Junior High girls won in exciting fashion as Macy manning hit a three pointer with 1.5 seconds to go in the game to help the girls beat Denton Calvary 34-33. The game went back and forth right up to the last seconds of the game when Miss Manning hit the winning shot. It was a fun game to watch. Great Job ladies!

The Junior High boys won in a landslide with a 42-9 victory over Denton Calvary. Greer Newlan led the Lions with 12 points followed by Caleb Brake (8), Slader Ammons (8) and Ryan Southerland (7). Congratulations on an impressive victory!

The team plays at Oak Grove Park in Grapevine today at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., and on Friday at 5:30 p.m.. Athletics Coram Deo
This week we were reminded again about the important things in life when one of our football players, Matthew Thiede, lost his mother Tuesday to a brain tumor. Linda had been a great teacher at CDA and was loved by one and all.

I am not sure I have ever been more proud of a football team as I was on Tuesday when Matthew showed up, unexpectedly, for practice that afternoon. The first thing I saw was, two of our senior leaders were sitting on the gym steps hugging him and crying with him. Soon after all the boys and coaches came around and joined to show Christ's love to him. It was a moving experience for me to see these young men expressing their sincere love for Matthew during this most difficult of circumstances.

It struck me after we all got together and prayed for Matthew and his family that this is truly what Athletics Coram Deo (In the presence of God) is all about. Here were 20 plus men lifting up and encouraging one of our members who was suffering a terrible loss. All the wins and losses of the season were thrown out the window and God was being glorified by the actions of these players and coaches.

If there is any legacy of the 2008 football team I hope this is it. They came together as a team and showed the love of Christ for all to see. Praise be to God for this blessing!
