After a one-year absence, Kim Grizzle is returning as head coach for girls’ volleyball at Coram Deo Academy of Flower Mound this fall. Kim coached the CDA girls from 2004-2007 and is excited to return for the upcoming season. Kim played volleyball at Miami University of Ohio from 1984-88 and was the captain of the team her senior year. She has coached North Texas Club Volleyball for the last six years and brings a wealth of experience to the CDA program.

“We are excited to have her back and look forward to a great season this year in our new district,” said Donnie Brake, CDA athletic director.

Coach Grizzle will have open gym for high school girls to enjoy and practice volleyball fundamentals from 4 – 6 p.m. on Mondays, July 7 through Aug. 4. She will work with the girls on basic volleyball skills as they enjoy some practice time.

Two experienced coaches are joining the Coram Deo Academy High School of Flower Mound athletic team this fall: Steve Lane will coach football and Victor Lemley will coach basketball.

Collaborative education at Coram Deo Academy was highlighted by Tracy Kornet, KTXA channel 21 anchorwoman, on June 2. She noted that Coram Deo Academy has three campuses, with many students attending school three days a week and working from home with their parents the other days. Average tuition is $4,000 for this model; the five-day per week program averages $8,000 and is available for fifth grade and up at the Flower Mound campus.

Outstanding students were honored during the annual awards ceremony at Coram Deo Academy High School of Flower Mound.
 
Receiving awards for Athletes of the Year were Hannah Hicks and D.L. Brake.  Awards for Artes Elegantes went to Liz Price, Lauren Devoll and Hannah Gibson.  Rebecca Musgrove, Bret Hawkins and David Neal were honored as Distinguished Students for Academics.  Citizens of the Year were Brice Praslicka and Marion Rogers.  Spirit and Honor House of the Year was the House of Wright, and the coveted House of the Year award went to the House of Lewis.

Twenty students, who comprised the 2008 graduating class of Coram Deo Academy High School of Flower Mound, graduated this May, bringing distinction in scholarship offers for higher education. Two have been awarded Chancellor Scholarships to Texas Christian University in Fort Worth; another has been honored with the Presidential Scholarship to Abilene Christian University; two have been nominated to the Air Force Academy; and two have signed letters of intent to play collegiate-level sports.

Flower Mound Mayor Jody Smith delivered the May 17 commencement address to the class which included valedictorian David Neal and co-salutatorians Jack O’Brien and Ashley Lampe.

During the ceremony, Coram Deo Academy Headmaster and President Rodney J. Marshall announced that more than $2 million in scholarships had been offered to the 2008 graduates.  Of that total, nearly $1 million has been accepted.

Following a site visit on Wednesday, an accreditation review team has recommended Coram Deo Academy of Carrollton for accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). Team chairwoman Judy Johnston, Ed.D., who is also director of Student Activities at Dallas ISD, and her visiting team  looked at all aspects of  education provided at Coram Deo Academy including governance, curriculum, teaching staff and student achievement. CDA will be formally accredited in the next few months when the Texas Council of SACS meets and votes on the team’s recommendation.

Due to electrical problems caused by downed power lines, there will be no school at Carrollton today, April 10.  Teachers will work to communicate with families regarding asssignments, as they are able. (Downed power lines affected some staff members also, so patience will be appreciated.)  Administrators hope that school can be held on Friday, April 11; as soon as more information is available regarding restoration of power at the Carrollton campus, a notice will be posted on the website.
