GRAPEVINE, TX -- April 15, 2008 -- After the Lady Lions (15-3; 6-2) fell behind 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning, Coach Whitby calmly said, "This is right where we want to be." Cue the seventh inning heroics: Kat Waller, single to right; Jessica Gregory bunt single; and Alex Whitby, a booming double to the left field fenced, scoring Miss Waller and Miss Gregory to take a 4-3 lead. Next, Liz DeOtte doubled to right field and Kelly McCullough flew out deep to center field, falling just short on her bid for another home run, to end the inning. Then, in the bottom of the seventh inning, with the tying runner on third, two outs and a full count, Miss Whitby struck out the final Faith Christian batter, with a called third strike that painted the outside corner at the knees. C'est magnifique, the Lady Lions are the 2008 TAPPS 1-4A District Champions!
While waiting for their first playoff oponent, the Lady Lions travel to The Winston School on Wednesday, for a 4:30 pm non-District game. Lady Lions Softball - There's Nothing Soft About Their Game! -- F. Benjamin II, Reporter-at-Large
