The varsity football team completed a sweep of the Dallas Prep Apaches with a 54-0 victory. The Lions (3-0) thoroughly dominated the Apaches from the start and were led by Marcus Dingler and Blake Santschi. The defense was stifling and the offense was explosive. Santschi and Trevor Smith accounted for 6 of the 8 touchdowns with Dingler and Cooper Newlan adding one each.
The Junior High team began the evening with a 34-0 victory over the Apaches. Touchdowns were scored by Connor Ashburn, Walker Nelson, Slader Ammons and Matthew McKee along with a TD pass from Caleb Brake to Grier Newlan. The defense was equally impressive led by Black Chaffe and Preston Green.
Congratulations to the Lions for an outstanding evening!
Some observations from Friday night's events:
Over 200 people attended the games.
Scores of young children playing football and other games all around the stadium. Several of them swaying to the music of the excellent CDA band.
After the game, many people stayed around to talk and to enjoy the fellowship while 20+ people were working hard to break down the concessions and allow those others to socialize.
To me this is the vision we have had for football at Coram Deo. It is about building a community at CDA. It is about bringing those M/W families with those T/TH families and getting to know each other at a CDA sponsored event. It is about coming together as one family supporting our athletes and building a lasting bond.
As I stood up in the press box and looked down on all the activities, I was really excited about the future of CDA athletics. We have areas to grow, but we are getting there and Friday night was proof of it. Thanks to all those who worked so hard to make it happen while allowing the rest of us to enjoy the evening. It was a great time and another successful event!
