SACS Update:
Parent input meetings revisited: After re-enrollment surveys were completed this past year (2007), our team went to work identifying areas of strength and areas where improvement was needed. As part of this process, our SACS team representatives from our parent base, Mrs. Sherryl Magee and Mrs. Kelly Baumgardner hosted a series of meetings designed to gather input from parents. We identified some themes from the surveys and sought honest responses and clarification on the issues from parents. What Mrs. Baumgardner and Mrs. Magee gathered was very valuable. As a result, it helped our faculty to better understand the desires of families and to take steps to be better partners with you. For instance, this information has helped up to realign some of the Shurley Grammar curriculum in the logic school. It also helped to identify areas where parents could be more involved in the decisions on work at home and reducing a bit of the homework stress. We are also researching other areas such as science and summer reading where you gave some good suggestions.
I can assure you that I, along with our team, have paid close attention to the surveys and the input from parents. While not all of the things we want to accomplish are complete, we have taken giant steps toward our goals. I ask that you continue to work with us and pray for our leaders as we work through the process of continuing improvement.
Look for more updates each week.
Upcoming information meetings:
The monthly Evening Information Meeting will be hosted at the Dallas School, 12727 Hillcrest, (SW corner of LBJ and Hillcrest, Dallas) from 7 pm to 8:30 pm on Monday, March 3. You may attend this meeting even if you are interested in another CDA location.
The Carrollton Campus will host a CAMPUS VISIT DAY on Thursday, March 6th from 9:30am – 10:30am. This gives parents a chance to hear a short presentation and then to spend time seeing what goes on in the classrooms at CDA of Carrollton. Please call the office at 972-862-8657 or e-mail carrollton@coramdeoacademy.org to make reservations.
Lost and Found:
The lost and found box is overflowing. If you have a lost item, be sure to check at the front desk. The unclaimed items will be sold at the used uniform and book sale at the end of the school year. So, be sure to drop by and look for your lost items this week.
Electives:
Elective and athletic registration for 2008-2009 is under way. Be sure to go to your family login to register. Remember that the price now is a bit less than it will be after May 1.
Technology Offerings:
One program we are expanding is our technology offering. This year we offered a very popular Microsoft Office 101 class. It has been a basic introduction to the Office suite of products. We will offer the same course this next year but we will also add others around it. A basic keyboarding and functions course will be offered for the younger students. Students in the middle grades can take the basic MS Office 101 course and the older students can take the advanced course. We should have enough notebook computers now to allow for each person in these courses to have their own computer during class time.
I look forward to seeing everyone this coming week and to continuing the SACS Accreditation update series:
In Christ,
Scott Davis
