ENROLLING IN FRIDAY CLASSES
Many of you are looking forward to enrolling your children in the CDA Friday classes because you know the benefits of our wonderful fine arts program. Here is a brief description of the classes offered for the 2008-2009 school year.
- Art The elements of art (line, shape, color, form, space, value and texture) are explored by students using a variety of techniques including drawing, painting, printing, engraving, sculpting, assembling, collaging, weaving, metal-working, and photography. Fundamentals will be taught and examples of famous art will be used to teach the concepts. Lesson plans will change every year to allow for students to try a variety of materials in different ways.
- Music Our approach to music education is to make music both educational and fun! This class will be action packed with singing, music games and classroom instrument playing. We will study composers and explore music as a gift from God. We will hear music that tells stories and music that praises our Creator. Rhythmic note identification and reading, dynamics and other musical symbols and instruments of the orchestra are just a few of the concepts we will explore. Building a vocal repertoire through lots of singing and the study of vocal technique will be a big part of our class.
- P.E. Classes The weekly P.E. Friday classes are intended to develop a child’s awareness of physical robustness and good health procedures. The Kindergarten and first grade students will enjoy playing games and exercising with balls, parachutes, and Frisbees. Students in the second, third, and fourth grades further develop their fitness and athletic skills by learning how to keep score for games, playing team sports and practicing good sportsmanship, jump rope challenges, and lessons in nutrition. The physical education classes will include fitness, health, and games appropriate for each grade level.
- Hands on Science Science classes cover a wide variety of science topics using hands-on, investigative style lessons. Experiments and instruction in nature sciences, biology, geology, chemistry, and physics will be covered in five year cycles to assure each year will be a new learning experience for the students.
