Every Lion Scores in 26-4 Romp over Price of Peace

CARROLLTON, TX -- February 28, 2008 -- Jacob Sagert pitched a complete game and had four hits to pace the Lions (3-1) in a five inning, 26-4 route of Carrollton's Prince of Peace.  The Lions blew the game open in the fifth inning, when they scored 18 runs.  In the fifth inning, Freshman Clayton King made his high school debut, twice reaching base safely, once by walk and once with an infield single.  Blake Sturm, John Holland, Cooper Newlan and Bret Hawkins each tripled as the Lions set a school record for runs.  Next, the Lions host Fairhill on Monday March 3, first pitch at 6:30 pm, and Prince of Peace on Thursday March 6, first pitch at 7:00 pm - both games will be played at McInnish Park in Carrollton.  Y'all check out the baseball boys - they're Lion-riffic!!  F. Lions Suffer First Loss of Season, Fall to Trinity Christian 5-3

FORT WORTH, TX -- February 26, 2008 -- Aledo's Trinity Christian used four pitchers in defeating the Lions, 5-3, at Fort Worth's Boaz Park Tuesday night.  The Lions (2-1) kept the game close behind a strong pitching effort from Cooper Newlan, but could not overcome 11 men left on base, two in scoring position when the game ended.  The glass-half-full side of things sees that, in all previous seasons of Lions baseball, the team would have been unable to keep things close while waiting for an offensive spark.  Next, Jacob Sagert will climb the hill for the Lions, when they face Prince of Peace in a 4:00 pm "road" on Feb. 28, at McInnish Park in Carrollton.  So, make plans to enjoy some afternoon sun and some Lions baseball on Thursday - you just might catch Lions Fever!! -- F. Lady Lions Fall 2-0 to Bethesda in Pitcher's Duel

WHITE SETTLEMENT, TX - February 26, 2008 - Those feisty Lady Lions couldn't quite cash in on two late-inning scoring chances, as they fell 2-0 to the Lady A's of Bethesda Tuesday afternoon.  The first hit of the game didn't come until Bethesda's half of the fourth, when the Lady A's strung together three hits to score the only runs of the game.  The Lady Lions had golden scoring chances in the sixth and seventh innings, stranding runners at second and third in the sixth and leaving the bases loaded in the final frame.  Alex Whitby threw a complete game three hitter and the Lady Lions ran their errorless-inning streak to 18 in the defeat.  Next, the Lady Lions will scrimmage American Heritage on Thursday, then head to Dallas on Friday and Saturday for a tournament hosted by Lakeview Prep.  Check out the Lady Lions: There's Nothing Soft About Their Game - F. Benjamin II, Reporter-At-Large.

Lions Turn 7th Inning Triple Play in 8-7 Comeback Victory Over Rockwall Christian

CARROLLTON, TX -- February 25, 2008 -- Ahhhh, yes, Holland-to-Newlan-to-Hawkins has a ring sweeter than that of Tinker-to-Evers-to-Chance from the days of yore.  And that is the sound of the Lions' first-ever triple play, one that slammed the door on a Rockwall Christian seventh-inning rally and sent Jack Hansen on to a complete game victory.  After again falling behind early, the Lions (2-0) clawed their way back to within two, 6-4.  Then, in the sixth inning, the Lions tied the score on a two-run, inside-the-park home run by Cooper Newlan, the second of his two hits on the night.  The Lions fell behind in the top of the seventh inning, 7-6, and faced runners at first and third with nobody out.  On the next pitch . . . well, a snippet from what would have been the play-by-play call had Vin Scully been present will paint a better picture: "There goes the runner from first, the pitch.  A soft line drive to Holland at short, who gloves it, throws to Newlan, who steps on first, fires home to Hawkins, who tags the runner trying to score from third! A 6-3-2 TRIPLE PLAY to end the inning!"  In the bottom of the seventh inning, with one out, Richard Walsh singled up the middle, Hansen doubled to left, scoring Walsh to tie the game.  After Newlan  moved  Hansen to third with a ground out to second, Bret Hawkins came to plate with two out, and the winning run on third. After a tough at-bat, strike three got away from the Rockwall Christian catcher, allowing Hansen to race home with the winning run.  After two exciting wins, the Lions travel on Feb. 25 to Fort Worth's Boaz Park to face Trinity Christian, in a 6:00 pm game. Enjoy some Lions baseball - you just might catch Lions Fever!! -- F. Benjamin II, Reporter-at-Large
