Lady Lions Open District Play with 7-2 Victory Over Pantego Christian
CARROLLTON, TX -- March 27, 2008 -- The Lady Lions (10-1; 1-0), paced a potent offensive attack and dominating pitching, fired an impressive opening salvo in District play, with a 7-2 victory over Pantego Christian. In front of a standing room only crowd, the Lady Lions offense wasted no time in getting started, scoring 3 runs in the first inning. In the bottom of the first, Alex Whitby singled up the middle, Liz DeOtte singled up the middle, Bailey Newlan bunted and reached safely on a throwing error, with Miss Whitby scoring on the play, and Natalie Osenbaugh doubled down the right field line, scoring Miss DeOtte and Miss Newlan. The Lady Lions pushed two more runs across in the second inning, taking a 5-0 lead after two innings. From there, Miss Whitby took over, yielding just 2 unearned runs on 3 hits, while striking out 13. The youthful Lady Lions' offense also featured a double by Miss Whitby, a booming double to the left-center field fence by Kat Waller, whose recent batting cage work was on display, and singles by Miss Whitby, Hannah Hicks and Jessica Gregory. Next, the Lady Lions take on cross-lake rival Faith Christian on Tuesday, April 1 (no, really), at Josey Ranch Sports Complex in Carrollton (1440 Keller Springs Rd), first pitch 5:00 pm.
