Consistent with the tradition of classical schools as the Coram Deo Academy Headmaster I am a teacher and thus lecture in class and in assemblies. Caput Magister, Latin for head (caput) master (magister) means the head teacher of the academy. This does not mean I am the best but rather head or lead our college of outstanding faculty. As CDA’s first Headmaster, when the Academy was small, I taught theology and most of the history classes in grades six through twelve. Academy expansion required assumption of administrative duties to assure qualitative development paralleled by quantitative growth. Now, with a fine administrative team in place I plan a more frequent presence in upper level classes and high school assemblies. So far this year, I have enjoyed speaking on The Drama of Scripture (G8), The Age of the Vikings (G10) and On the Christian Commonwealth – the Christian idea of civil covenant (G12). Among other possible topics, I look forward to addressing the assembled high school students and faculty on The Christian Theory of Justifiable War to provide a consistent rubric for evaluation of warfare. Later I plan a lecture to the same on Dutch Theologian and activist, Abraham Kuyper’s idea of Sphere Sovereignty. In addition, I plan to speak in individual classes on The Battle of Thermopylae (G8), Epiphany and later Plato’s Republic (G9), How the Irish Saved Civilization (G10), Political Visions and Illusions (G11), The Inestimable Right of Self Government and perhaps American Foreign Policy (G12). Next to publicly representing the vision of Coram Deo Academy, I enjoy most this part of my role as Headmaster because these vibrant students represent a message we will send to a time we will never see.
