Now Thank We All Our God

Even though this hymn is the quintessential American Thanksgiving hymn, it was not written by an American.  Martin Rinkart (b 1586), a German pastor and the son of a cooper, worked long hours for poor wages.  In fact, he lived in poverty.  He served his church throughout the Thirty Years’ War and the Black Plague.  He buried 5000 people, sometimes performing services for 40-50 people at a time.  He lost his wife along with many friends.  Clearly, he had little time to write hymns and yet we know that he sang to relieve the suffering of his days.  Read or sing Now Thank We All Our God during the holidays.  Our lives don’t compare to the sorrows of his life and yet sometimes we find it in ourselves to be less than thankful.  His life was not long, such hardship has its toll.  He died only one year after the war ended.  What sort of a man writes a hymn thanking God with all his heart, hand and voice?  He tells us to remember what wondrous things God hath done and in whom the world rejoices.  We would not have considered his life joyful or filled with blessings.  Yet, through God’s grace, he did.  Take a little extra time this holiday and remember what wondrous things God hath done for your family.  Happy Thanksgiving.  Have a great holiday.  See you in December!

Don’t forget to enroll in the Scrip program – earn money for CDA and your family tuition account!  The deadline for the next Scrip order is Friday, December 5th (pickup for this order is December 15th – 18th).  You must enroll in Presto-Pay to order Scrip through the CDA Scrip Program – please allow 3 days to complete this enrollment prior to placing your order.  For more information see the CDA Scrip Program document on Mrs. Dwyer’s teacher docs or contact Karla Ebensberger at ebensberger@tx.rr.com.

School Picture Retakes:  NEW DATE

Tues and Wed (Dec 8th and 9th) New picture forms will be sent with the students after we receive the original picture.  If you do not receive one, See teacher documents, Dwyer.  There will be a form posted there as well.

A Good Time to Prepare

Our hair code is not restrictive; however, we do ask that the student’s hair be neatly trimmed, combed and washed.  Hair should be out of the eyes at all times.  Please use the Thanksgiving break to get your student's hair trimmed and ready to go for the rest of the semester.

We grow fast

We are fearfully and wonderfully made!  God has made it so we go through times of great growth - emotionally, spiritually, and physically!

It is amazing how quickly we grow in the middle school years!  Sometimes it seems that students sprout up so quickly that skirts and pants become too short overnight!  Check the skirt/short length for your girls.  It should be no more than 4 inches above the knee.  To check the length have your young lady kneel and measure from the floor.  We appreciate your attention to the school’s code.  Lands’ End – through the Scrip program - is offering a great percentage for those who need to purchase the next size.

Parent meeting for CDA Yell Leaders 2009-2010

If your student is interested in participating on the CDA Yell Leaders team for the 2009-2010 school year (must be 7th-12th grade next year), please attend one of the Yell Leaders' Parent meetings on either December 10 or December 11*.

CDA Yell Leaders work to increase CDA school spirit, support athletic teams, represent Coram Deo at various events, and promote leadership skills.

The meeting will cover: formation of Parent leadership team for next year, history, purpose, Coram Deo expectations and requirements of CDA yell leaders (i.e. modesty in behavior and uniforms, no stunting, etc.), fund raising, coaching, uniforms, practices and camp.  Please join us from 2:45-3:45 to learn more about your child's participation in CDA Yell Leaders, and how you can help if you are interested in being part of parent leadership.

*meetings on both days will cover the same topics so choose the day that is most convenient.
