Following a site visit Wednesday, an accreditation review team has recommended Coram Deo Academy of Carrollton for accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). Team chairwoman Judy Johnston, Ed.D., who is also director of Student Activities at Dallas ISD, and her visiting team looked at all aspects of education provided at Coram Deo Academy including governance, curriculum, teaching staff and student achievement. CDA will be formally accredited in the next few months when the Texas Council of SACS meets and votes on the team’s recommendation.
In addition to Dr. Johnston, team members included Jim Hughey, Ed.D., consultant with Organizational Health Corporation and past superintendent of Dallas ISD; and Bob Johnston, educator and school district administrator.
Commendations included parent communication and support, staff retention, clarity of mission, excellent leadership, organization and quality of the review materials, and student enthusiasm.
Recommendations included continue to strengthen school funding through tuition increases and philanthropy, and make minor adjustments to grades one through five curriculum in writing and science.
Accreditation provides a proven process for improving schools, providing a safe and enriching learning environment, maintaining an efficient and effective operation, and raising student achievement. In addition, accreditation eases the transfer of credits from one accredited school to another and qualifies students for some state grants and scholarships.
