Coram Deo Academy of Carrollton has received notice of accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). CDA of Carrollton was recommended for accreditation following a site visit last April, when all aspects of education were evaluated, including governance, curriculum, teaching staff and student achievement.
“We are committed to the process of continuous improvement,” said Rodney Marshall, headmaster and president of CDA. “We use the SACS standards to guide our efforts in continuous improvement for all campuses.”
“Our collaborative improvement effort was rewarded,” said Scott Davis, CDA of Carrollton director. “Teachers, staff, administrators and parents were all involved in the year-long effort, and especially on the day of the quality assurance review.”
The team was led by Bob Schaeffer, who previously worked with the team at Coram Deo Academy of Flower Mound on accreditation efforts. CDA of Flower Mound was accredited in December 2006.
Commendations included parent communication and support, staff retention, clarity of mission, excellent leadership, organization and quality of the review materials, and student enthusiasm. Recommendations included continue to strengthen school funding through tuition increases and philanthropy, and make minor adjustments to grades one through five curriculum in writing and science.
Accreditation provides a proven process for improving schools, providing a safe and enriching learning environment, maintaining an efficient and effective operation, and raising student achievement. In addition, accreditation eases the transfer of credits from one accredited school to another and qualifies students for some state grants and scholarships.
Coram Deo Academy is an independent, nondenominational school and Christian learning community, with three locations in the metroplex: preK- grade eight in Carrollton at 2435 E. Hebron Parkway; preK- grade five in Dallas at 12727 Hillcrest Rd.; and preK – grade 12 in Flower Mound at 4900 Wichita Trail. Filling a unique niche, the Academy educates youth in a historic Christian worldview through a vigorous classical curriculum and genuine school-home collaboration, where students attend school three days a week and work at home under the tutelage of their parents the other days. A five-day option is also available from grade five and up at the Flower Mound campus. The curriculum is based on the classical trivium model of grammar, logic and rhetoric and includes the introduction of Latin in third grade. CDA offers a thoughtful approach to a renaissance in classical education and works to train ethical leaders and wise thinkers who will shape culture for the glory of God.
