Last weekend, Mrs. Clements's AP Art History class from CDA Flower Mound visited the Dallas Museum of Art. Students walked through the Indigenous American, African, and Oceanic galleries as they discussed particulars of roughly 20 works complimentary to those they are learning about in class. 

 

In addition, students had a chance to independently explore other sections of the museum, choose favorite works, and write about why these works spoke to them as such. A few students even chose to remain at the DMA after the formal trip concluded, just to see the other various art the museum affords.

 

The students enjoyed seeing art "come to life" at the museum in ways that simply cannot be expressed in textbooks or online. And, in typical CDA fashion, they represented our school so very well! 

CDA Flower Mound is proud to welcome the new Pom Squad to our list of extra-curriculars. This group of logic and rhetoric school girls will perform at football games, pep rallies, and other school events where they will elevate our school spirit.

Below, Coach Jeff Cornell, Athletic Director and Head Volleyball Coach at CDA Flower Mound, shares his view of what it means to be an athlete at our Classical Christian school.

"As a Classical school our emphasis is on developing the whole person; the body, soul, mind, and spirit.  A student athlete brings their entire being into the competition space, not just their talents.  Therefore, as coaches we are to mentor and train up every area of that student-athlete to be the best version of themselves that Christ has for them. We want them to love the Lord with all their heart and love their neighbor well.  We train them in overcoming adversity, building resilience, learning how to be a good teammate, and how to persevere in all aspects of their being.  To train the body is an essential element of Classical learning and competition. We must strive to reach new heights, run faster, jump higher, lift more as we challenge our body to become all that God created it to be.  Spiritually it is essential to connect God’s word and heart within the structure of athletics.  This manifests itself through prayer, devotion, practical teaching, and offering good godly counsel when situations arise.

Activities: Swimming, Life Guarding, Tutoring, Junior Leadership and Service League, CDA Mentor to Logic School students. Interned with GDS Wealth Management.

 

 

Ianna I-An Chan

College Attending: Hillsdale College

Activities: House President, Senior Council, Speech, Debate, Poetry & Prose, accomplished pianist, played in the CDA Jazz Band, Choir, figure skater, Junior Leadership and Service League. Ran a small business selling digital art, logos and hand-made goods.

 

 

CDA Flower Mound is proud of the Class of 2024 and all that they have achieved during their academic career thus far. The class was offered a combined total of $8,483,470 in college scholarships this year. These students are well on their way to impacting the world around them for the glory of God.

Many members of the class received college scholarships that reflect their hard work inside the classroom and with their extracurricular activities. One such student is Noah Kulle, who will be attending The University of Dallas next year on a full tuition scholarship.

 

 

Our students performed for music faculty from various universities.  The judging at the state level is stringent, and our CDA students excelled!

 

 

Congratulations to the FM CDA Symphonic Band today for making Superior Ratings in both concert and sight reading and receiving the Sweepstakes Award at the TPSMEA Concert and Sight-Reading Contest!!

 

Mr. Thacker and I are so proud of our amazing students!  They played so musically and made an impressive mark on the contest.  Here are some of the comments from the judges:

 

"You are doing so many wonderful musical things!  Your overall approach to your program is very mature and demonstrates a deep understanding of how music works!"

 

"The band does so many things well.  It was refreshing hearing your performance.  It was a true musical performance."

 

"If I could add a plus at the end of the 1^st division rating, I would."

  

We had a great day at the TPSMEA Vocal Solo and Ensemble contest held at Broadway Baptist Church in Fort Worth recently and came home with five medals!

 

Ivy Hull and Maddie Murphy qualified for State Solo and Ensemble and received first divisions and Aria Stanley, Francesca Pastor, and Ella Rich also received first division ratings. 

 

 

This past weekend, 14 members of the bands from both Flower Mound and CDA Collin County campuses participated in the TPSMEA All State Clinic and Concert weekend in Richardson. The concerts were held in McFarlin Performing Arts Center on the SMU campus.

 

The students worked with guest clinician Amy Woody (University of North Texas Wind- Studies Department and Director of Athletic Bands). Our musicians spent dedicated hours in rehearsals benefiting from these world-class clinicians and learning music that they would then perform on the concert on Saturday. Outside the rehearsals and performance, students had fun fellowshipping with one another at Top Golf in Allen! 

 

Mrs. Bowen, Mr. Thacker, and Mrs. Clements are proud of their students for their tireless musical efforts, and humbled by the time and energy they spent this weekend auditioning, preparing, and performing such amazing repertoire.

Last weekend, two choir students from Flower Mound and CDA Collin County campuses participated in the TPSMEA All-State Clinic and Concert weekend in Richardson. The All-State Choir Concert was performed at McFarlin Auditorium on the SMU campus on Saturday evening.

 

The students worked with guest clinician and conductor Dr. José “Peppie” Calvar who is an associate professor and assistant director of choral activities at the Setnor School of Music at Syracuse University. The choir had a marvelous time learning a varied repertoire of music and gleaning musical knowledge from this talented conductor. Outside of the rehearsals and performance, students had fun fellowshipping with one another over meals and bonding at Top Golf in Allen! 

 

Mrs. Westgate and Mrs. Kiser are proud of their students for their many hours of rehearsal, preparation, focus, and endurance that are all part of this All-State process.
